An occasional visitor : channel-billed cuckoo

Watching out from a high branch!

The Channel-billed cuckoo is a bit of a villain. Native to Australia, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia, it is is the largest brood parasite in the world, and the largest cuckoo. This is a juvenile male that stopped by our neighbourhood this week.

      1. Are your Cuckoo numbers stable? The English Cuckoo is in serious decline, they think because of climate change but not 100% sure

        1. I confess I had to look this up, Becky. No, not considered endangered. They do spend most of their year further north than Sydney, so this was my first sighting (but I may have heard them before)
