Sorry, that is smoke, not rain!

Normally these radar scans would suggest some decent rainfall. Sadly, for many days now, they are showing the smoke from bushfires.

Two weeks ago, this post was about Sydney blanketed in smoke. Not every day has been like that because of changes in wind direction. However, records have been set on three days with the index being 10-15 times the safe level for breathing. Today, 21 December is such a day. With temperatures rising above 40C, a number of fires have been declared at emergency level (red). Note: The fire map extends further south than the radar scans.

  1. It’s not one to like, is it, Ken? So helpless in the face of this situation. 🙁 🙁 I hope you can still have a pleasant Christmas. You might have a smile over at my place today. Sending hugs! 🙂

    1. We just have to stay indoors to protect our lungs. A cool change has arrived so tomorrow we’ll be out with the watering can again ?

    2. Dreadful! It is hard to imagine sitting here amongst our floods, cancelled trains, blocked roads, …. But your climate retaliation is scarier than ours.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas, Ken

  2. Just heartbreaking to see the images and hear the accounts of the catastrophic bushfires Ken – it seems to have only got worse since you posted this and they’ve been going on for weeks now. The vastness and scale of it all is incomprehensible. The air quality must be appalling on top of everything else. We visited many of these areas when we lived over east – they were so beautiful, it’s tragic to witness all this loss and heartbreak. Let’s hope solutions and strategies can be implemented both in Australia and the rest of the world to bring about positive changes as it’s looking so grim at present. Hoping for rain and cool weather changes soon, take care Rosemary.

    1. Thank you, Rosemary. It is almost beyond comprehension. My step count had taken a dive as breathing the air has been unwise on too many days.

      1. Yes it is almost beyond comprehension Ken – heartbreaking to see and hear the stories of loss and destruction in so many different states too, It must be horrible dealing with the smoke too – you just have to stay indoors for the time being and do hope things improve soon.
